This week I started Ethan and Lance on a new reading program that we were blessed with via the Crew.
It’s ABeCeDarian, Ethan is using B-1 and Lance A-2.
Today Ethan read a fable about a frog that saved an ant. The little ant in return saved the frog from a human who was going to kill it. Moral: A kindness is never wasted!
He completed lesson four. Below Ethan is to say the word, copy it, and underline the sounds.
After his lessons I have him practice reading for fluency using one of the many Free Supplemental Materials.
He can read all the word correctly, so Monday I’m going to see if he can read 60 words a minute.
I also have him practice reading sentences. He kept saying want for won’t. I am not sure why he kept goofing with the word an. Humph, stumped me on that one. I am so thankful for this program. The lessons are not overly complicated. Although not having to learn rules is so different, especially when they’ve been drilled into me for the past 10 years!!! I have to remember not to say, “The silent ‘e’ makes the vowel say its name” or something to the like.
With Lance who hasn’t learned all the phonics rules, I’m interested to see how this works. I have introduced him to some but I’m going to stop now that I’m using ABeCeDarian.
I couldn’t figure out how to share a video of Lance reading but I think this might work for now, try clicking HERE. (please leave a comment and let me know if it works, I’d appreciate it)
I have stopped all other phonics with both Ethan and Lance. I am going to see how this works all by itself. I sure hope it helps because if not I’ll lose 6 weeks of teaching time with their regular phonics programs.
ABeCeDian looks very promising though and I can’t wait to see the results. My goal is to use it five days a week but four will be good too.
